Kayaking Vacations in South Lake Tahoe

Kayaking is one of the top activities for anyone who enjoys spending time on the water. It can be as relaxing or high intensity as you like, meaning it is great for all ages and skill levels, and it is also one of the more affordable water activities.

But a large part of what makes kayaking so enjoyable is having a stunning place in which to kayak, and few locations can match the natural beauty of Lake Tahoe. Every moment kayaking on South Lake Tahoe provides unmatched views, crystal clear waters, and - if you have the right locations - a peaceful getaway, all making Lake Tahoe the best place for a kayaking vacation in Northern California.

Planning Your South Lake Tahoe Kayaking Trip

Lake Tahoe has many options for experiencing kayaking. You can bring your kayak to one of the many great local beaches to play around just off the shore for the day, plan a day long excursion to some of the exciting locations around South Lake Tahoe, or traverse the Lake Tahoe Water Trail for a challenging, multi-day journey.

Some of the options to consider when planning a trip to a Tahoe kayaking destination include:

  • Launching Point - There are a number of places from which you can start your trip or launch a kayak. If you are new to kayaking or kayaking with younger kids, simply taking a kayak to the beach is a great way to get comfortable in a kayak. Consider taking your kayak to one of the many great local beaches such as El Dorado Beach, Camp Richardson, Kiva Beach, or Meeks Bay.

  • Check Out Longer Trips - Depending on your skill level, you can set off in your kayak for some of the great day trips around South Lake Tahoe. Some favorites include kayaking into Emerald Bay from Baldwin Beach, kayaking past Rubicon Point to see the lighthouse, or kayaking out from Zephyr Cove to catch a fantastic sunset.

  • Check Out the Water Trail - The Lake Tahoe Water Trail goes completely around the lake with 20 “trailheads” for getting into and out of the water. The entire trail is 72 miles long and there are many hotels and campgrounds near the beach along the way to break it up, or you can try individual segments.

  • Rent a Kayak - Having a comfortable kayak will be an essential part of your trip. You can rent a kayak from SUP Tahoe where we offer single and double kayaks for rent, as well as all the equipment you need to hit the water. With both one day and multi day rentals available and car racks as part of your rental, our rentals are an easy way to take a kayak to any of the local beaches or Water Trail put-in spots that you want to visit.

South Lake Tahoe is one of the most beautiful areas and kayaking is a must do activity on a trip to the area where you can expect your day in the water to be unforgettable. If you are coming to South Lake Tahoe, reserve a kayak in advance from SUP Tahoe. We are the best place to rent a kayak or stand up paddleboard in Tahoe with great prices, high quality rentals, and flexible times.
